Fordham sits in the west-central Bronx around Fordham University's Rose Hill campus, a neighborhood where the university's Gothic stone buildings and tree-lined quadrangles contrast with the busy commercial strips along Fordham Road and the Grand Concourse. For dog owners, the primary green space is the New York Botanical Garden, which borders the neighborhood to the north — while dogs are not permitted inside the garden grounds, the surrounding paths and Bronx Park along the Bronx River provide on-leash walking routes.
